About the collection
The collection
ARAMOB (Semantic enrichment and mobilisation of data with focus on spiders) is a research project funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) within its research program „Forschungsdaten in der Praxis“. It is focused on arachnological data and will enrich collection and observation data for analysing as well as standardise taxonomical and ecological information for utilisation by the Diversity Workbench. It is a joint project between SMNK, SMNS, SNSB, and RWTH Aachen. The package contains the data from all ARAMOB specimens stored in the collection of the State Museum for Natural History Stuttgart.
Easy-language version
ARAMOB: Data about spiders and other arachnids
ARAMOB is a research project. The full name is:
Semantic enrichment and mobilisation of data with focus on spiders.
This means: The project improves data about spiders and other arachnids. It also makes the data easier to find and use.
The German Research Foundation funds the project. Its short name is DFG.
ARAMOB is part of the DFG research programme Research Data in Practice.
What does ARAMOB do?
ARAMOB works with data about arachnids. Arachnids include spiders, scorpions, and mites.
The project works with 2 types of data:
- data from museum collections,
- data from observations in nature.
ARAMOB improves this data for research. For example, the project checks and organises information about:
- the species,
- the names of species,
- where the animals live.
The project makes this information more uniform. This helps people compare and use the data.
The data can then be used in the Diversity Workbench. This is a computer system for managing data about living things.
Who works on the project?
These organisations work together on ARAMOB:
- State Museum of Natural History Karlsruhe (SMNK),
- State Museum of Natural History Stuttgart (SMNS),
- Bavarian State Collection of Zoology (SNSB),
- RWTH Aachen University.
