About the collection

The collection

The ichthyological collection contains more than 1000 type specimens from ca. 450 nominal species. The number of specimens held in the collection is about 150,000. The collection has a clear geographical focus on Europe, with a large majority of specimens coming from Germany. The second geographical focus is South America, with Brazil and the Dominican Republic accounting for most of the specimens held in the collection.
